In simplistic terms, hosting is somewhere to put your website.

To use a printed book as an analogy:

Pages in a book are akin to the pages of a website.
A book is akin to a website.
A library is akin to the Internet
Website Hosting is equivalent to being the place where you would find a book in a library.
